Man’s best friend is staying safe and connected with broadband satellite technology that locates pets

On July 8, 2026, the pet technology company Fi launched Fi Ultra, the world’s first dog tracker that leverages low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology to keep adventurous dogs and their owners connected, even when they explore beyond the reach of terrestrial network coverage.

Made for dogs roaming large properties or adventuring off leash with their owners, the tracker uses T-Mobile’s cell service when it is available and switches to satellite connectivity through Starlink when a dog moves beyond terrestrial networks, integrating all-around coverage.

This capability is especially valuable for families in rural areas, people traveling with pets and dog owners who hike, camp or explore remote places. Limited connectivity in these settings can create a dangerous gap between pets and their caretakers. By attaching a small, durable device built to withstand rugged terrain to a dog collar, owners can use the Fi Ultra in tandem with the Fi app to track their pets, ensuring they stay safe and healthy when out exploring.

Whether a dog escapes from a rural property or becomes separated from its owner on a trail, LEO satellites help bolster an important connection.
