In Case You Missed It, Amazon’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network, Project Kuiper, and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) signed an agreement to support continued investment in space technology and the accessibility of high-speed, reliable broadband across the world. The coordination agreement underscores Project Kuiper’s commitment to pursuing ground-breaking advancements in astronomical science without compromising high standards of space stewardship.

The alignment between NSF and Project Kuiper illustrates the growing LEO sector’s commitment to supporting science and sustainability in space. “This agreement underscores our commitment to responsible space operations and our belief that satellite broadband and ground-based astronomy can successfully coexist,” said Project Kuiper’s Chris Hofer. “[W]e look forward to continuing that work as we deploy our full satellite constellation.”

LEO satellite broadband has the potential to deliver a fast, affordable broadband option to every home, school and small business. Because LEO constellations consist of more satellites and orbit the Earth more closely, they can connect even remote communities, hard-to-reach areas and places that other broadband technologies have not served or have underserved to date. LEO broadband can play a pivotal role in closing the digital divide once and for all and bringing the full potential of 21st-century financial, educational, healthcare and agricultural technologies to the people and places that need it most.
