In case you missed it, Amazon Leo is set to bring satellite internet to South Africa in 2027. On July 17, 2026, Amazon Leo finalized an agreement with Herotel, South Africa’s largest fixed internet service provider, to bring 21st-century connectivity to residential customers through evry, a new Amazon Leo-powered connectivity service.

This partnership will help bridge connectivity gaps across South Africa, especially among those living on farms, in small towns and in rural communities. Powered by Amazon Leo, evry is designed to locally distribute internet connectivity to homes and small businesses that have previously been underserved or unserved by terrestrial internet offerings throughout South Africa.

Herotel CEO Van Zyl Botha puts it this way:

“We have always believed that South Africans outside the major metros deserve reliable, affordable internet. With evry, powered by Amazon Leo, we will reach the customers that even fiber and fixed wireless cannot serve. It no longer matters where you live.”

By integrating Amazon Leo’s global technology with Herotel’s local network of more than 350,000 active customers across more than 550 towns, this agreement will give South Africa’s communities the quality service of a global provider with the benefits of local installation, customer service and field operations.
