In April 2026, Amazon Leo announced its partnership with professional golf’s DP World Tour to bring fast, reliable satellite internet to the tour’s tournaments around the world, including 42 tournaments across 25 countries and five continents. This was a first-of-its-kind partnership for professional sports. Adopting LEO satellites for this competition enables the organization to provide broadband internet service despite the competition’s temporary and vast setup across remote locations. Setting up internet connectivity across golf courses — many of which are hundreds of acres — can be a challenge, but LEO satellites allow for rapid network setup and breakdown across venues, as the technology is not constrained to terrestrial infrastructure to build out network coverage. LEO satellite technology has the ability to power sports and media production, in addition to powering live scoring systems, fan apps and other services needed across sports venues.

Launching Space-Based Technology for Sports Tournaments = Increased Coverage and Connection for Fans
With this summer’s sports calendar busy with World Cup games and Wimbledon matches, space-based technology has played an important role in connecting sports fans with the players, teams and games that they love. Across sports competitions, fans eagerly await score updates, the ability to tune in live to games and keep up with how the tournaments progress. Space-based technology allows them to stay engaged in real time. For example, at Wimbledon, the All England Lawn Tennis Club activated geostationary communication satellites to project matches to more than 220 territories via 39 major broadcast agreements. While they adopted a number of distribution frameworks to connect fans to the tennis matches, their geostationary space segment was used for direct-to-home living room distribution. Meanwhile, World Cup viewers had access to live games everywhere from the living room to the airplane cabin. With increased access to in-flight Wi-Fi across a variety of airlines, as powered by LEO satellite providers, fans did not have to miss a goal. Satellite connectivity is essential to live sports broadcasting, providing the scale, reach, reliability and resilience needed to connect fans with global events.
