Connect Everyone Coalition Statement Supporting FCC Space Licensing Modernization
Today, the Connect Everyone Coalition released the following statement supporting the Federal Communications Commission’s effort to modernize satellite licensing rules through the creation of a new Part 100 framework:
“The Connect Everyone Coalition applauds the FCC’s continued commitment to modernizing outdated space policies and clearing barriers that risk holding back new connectivity technologies,” said Richard Cullen, Executive Director of the Connect Everyone Coalition. “There is no path to universal broadband access without deploying a wide range of connectivity options, including low Earth orbit satellite broadband. By replacing outdated rules with a clearer, more predictable and more efficient licensing framework, the Commission can help accelerate deployment, support continued investment in space-based communications and help more consumers benefit more quickly from faster, more reliable broadband options.”
“We look forward to continuing to support the FCC, policymakers, industry stakeholders and fellow advocates in advancing modern space policies that will help bridge the digital divide, strengthen American leadership in space and expand access to fast, affordable broadband for everyone, everywhere.”
The Connect Everyone Coalition has consistently supported an innovative approach to expanding broadband access that takes full advantage of new technologies and connectivity options, including advances in low Earth orbit satellite broadband. LEO satellites have the potential to play a pivotal role in helping close the digital divide by providing a new, reliable and cost-effective broadband option to previously unserved and underserved communities.
