In 30 Seconds: Amazon Leo, Amazon’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite broadband network, designed to deliver reliable, high-speed internet to hard-to-reach locations across the globe, is soon to be open for business. With 14 launches under its belt, nearly 400 LEO satellites in space and more than 100 additional launches scheduled, Amazon Leo is prepared to launch initial services later this year. To date, there are enough Amazon Leo satellites in space to support continuous broadband service, with coverage and capacity set to continue increasing with future satellite deployments.

State of Play: Amazon’s low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite initiative, Amazon Leo, was first announced in 2019, with its initial prototype satellites launched in 2023. The company began full-scale deployment on April 28, 2025, from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, and continues to expand its constellation through launches aboard United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Arianespace’s Ariane 6. Most recently, on July 2, 2026, Amazon Leo deployed an additional 29 satellites, now approaching nearly 400 satellites in orbit. The company is on track to deploy its full planned constellation of 7,700 satellites by July 2035. This growing network represents a significant step toward expanding global broadband access and helping close persistent connectivity gaps in underserved and rural communities.
