Monthly Member Highlight: Taxpayers Protection Alliance
The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) is a Washington, D.C.-based non-partisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about the government’s effects on the economy. By monitoring government spending, conducting research and analysis and disseminating information on the government’s actions, TPA seeks to hold politicians accountable for their policies through its network of taxpayers. This network watches for whether governmental policies provide real, efficient solutions to runaway deficits and debt. TPA publishes blogs, commentaries and notifications that alert on these issues.
TPA advocates against ineffective policies while working to advance policies that protect everyday Americans. TPA also emphasizes the importance of free market policies and focus on key issues, including: Congress, defense, earmarks, energy, federal agencies, harm reduction, healthcare, intellectual property, international issues, postal reform, regulation, spending, state issues, taxes, telecommunications and technology.
“The Taxpayers Protection Alliance is committed to raising awareness on the many ways government red tape and out-of-control spending harm taxpayers and consumers,” says Taxpayers Protection Alliance President David Williams. “Regulatory reform and fiscal restraint are key to unlocking innovation and keeping costs on families and businesses under control. To achieve these priorities, it’s critical to bridge the digital divide and connect Americans with cutting-edge technologies.”
From advocating to cut red tape to highlighting the role of advantageous government policies, TPA supports reform that drives the American economy forward. This is what makes TPA a natural partner for the Connect Everyone Coalition (CEC). TPA recognizes the importance of bridging the digital divide and the formative role policy modernization plays in driving competition, innovation and prosperity. Similarly, CEC supports an approach to broadband access that is innovative and competitive, taking full advantage of the new technologies and connectivity options—like low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites—that advance connectivity to everyone, everywhere.
“Modernized policies that reduce government inefficiencies and promote innovation are essential to bolstering the economy and increasing prosperity for the American people,” says CEC Executive Director Richard Cullen. “A competitive market creates viable opportunities for every tool in the connectivity toolbox—like LEO satellites—to provide broadband access and unlocks a cascade of socioeconomic growth and development that positively impacts the economy and fosters innovation and prosperity for entire communities.”

With the adoption of innovative solutions and modernized policies, high-speed, reliable broadband deployment has the potential to generate a high degree of economic development and a vast array of career opportunities. In this way, when the right policies are implemented to promote competition and innovation, LEO satellites can increase productivity, income and overall economic development.
In fact, access to broadband, especially LEO satellite broadband, greatly benefits national, local and individual economies and finances. It is estimated that the expanding LEO satellite market has the potential to increase U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) by more than $29 billion annually.
Hence, modernized policies that account for the expanding capabilities of LEO satellites are essential to economic development and prosperity in the marketplace, driving the economy forward and benefitting everyday American people.
