The Connect Everyone Coalition Applauds FCC And NTIA For Their Leadership In Space Policy Modernization & Tech Neutrality
Today, the Connect Everyone Coalition (CEC) applauded new, promising steps by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to continue the modernization of space policy and emphasize the importance of tech neutrality in broadband deployment strategies.
The new “licensing assembly line” proposed in the FCC’s recent rulemaking will accelerate review and permitting processes to reduce regulatory red tape that risks holding back space innovation. This work to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for innovation will unleash the full capability of space technologies like low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite broadband.
We’re encouraged by NTIA Administrator Roth’s strong recent comments confirming that tech neutrality is “an existential necessity” for successful broadband deployment. Administrator Roth also highlighted specific new tools that the NTIA has developed to ensure that innovative satellite technology — including LEO satellites — can continue to launch and scale without unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles.
“Modernizing outdated space policy is the only way the U.S. will realize the full potential of innovations like LEO satellites to bridge the digital divide once and for all,” said CEC Executive Director Richard Cullen. “We are encouraged by Chairman Carr’s and Administrator Roth’s ongoing commitment to making sure everyday Americans keep benefitting from this exciting wave of new solutions that Chairman Carr calls the ‘Space Race 2.0’.”
About The Connect Everyone Coalition
